Have you ever listened to Piedmont blues? It's a kind of blues using special fingerpicking, a thumb bass and a melody on the treble strings, creating almost a ragtime effect. This kind of music is regional, covering the Piedmont plateau area of Georgia and the Carolinas, all the way north to Maryland and Delaware and even farther south to Florida. Piedmont blues cross between blues and folk music, so you might find this kind of music in a couple of places in the library collection. HCPL has several recordings of Etta Baker, who was a master of Piedmont blues, including Railroad Bill and One-Dime Blues. Check out these CDs and enjoy a unique kind of blues.
