Attention Knitters and Crocheters!
December 4, 2008
Attention Knitters and Crocheters!
The staff of Harford County Public Library (HCPL) is collecting handmade hats and scarves to donate to local Faith Communities and Civic Agencies United (FCCAU) shelters for the holidays. Last year HCPL collected over 300 items which were given to the shelters for the holidays. The donations came from library staff and customers, knitting groups who meet at the branches and local crafting groups.
Judy Merritt, FCCAU Executive Director, said that the clients received the gift bags during the week of Christmas last year and were overwhelmed to receive such a personal, warm and useful gift. “The library staff and customers are very generous and caring. These handmade items were greatly appreciated by those who are less fortunate than us and these items were the only gift some of them received during the holiday season.
Most of the shelter clients are men and women from the ages of 23 – 70. Preferred colors are masculine colors such as navy, brown, tan and gray. The handmade items will be placed in gift bags with gift tags saying “Handmade for you by the staff and friends of Harford County Public Library.
The deadline for submissions is the week of December 15. Items may be dropped off at any branch of HCPL. For more information contact Susan Burdette at HCPL, 410 273 5600 x2243.
Harford County Public Library operates eleven branches located throughout Harford County, Maryland. The library serves over 180,000 registered borrowers of all ages and has an annual circulation of over 4,000,000.
