More British Police Detectives
A few weeks ago I blogged about finding some British police procedurals for a customer. That started me off on a personal reading diversion, and I have discovered for myself another British police pair - DCI Lapslie and Sergeant Emma Bradbury of the Essex Constabulary.
You might like them if you have enjoyed stories about Inspector Lindley and Sergeant Havers. Lapslie is on "gardening leave" because of a chronic neurological condition, but keeps getting summoned back for high profile cases. He is very senior to conduct murder investigations and he cuts corners. Bradbury is youngish, very aware that she has to be "one of the boys" to get on, and has an attitude.
The author is Nigel McCrery. He is a great writer, keeps the pace going, is very good on the police ambience, and is especially good at revealing complex characters through their actions and speech. He also has creative and well crafted plots. He deals with serial killers, but his books are not gruesome, just psychologically fascinating. I have just read Still Waters Find this book in our catalog. It goes in depth into the actions and thoughts of the killer as well as the detectives in pursuit. I couldn't put it down.
