Harford County and the Newbery Awards
On January 23rd, the Newbery Awards (along with many other book awards) were announced at the American Library Association Midwinter meeting in Seattle, Washington. Harford County played a role in this big event, first of all, by having one of HCPL's librarians, Jennifer Ralston, serving on the Newbery Committee, and then secondly, to have a Harford County resident, Jennifer Holm, win an Newbery Honor award for her book, Penny from Heaven. See our KidZone or TeenZone for more information about the awards.Labels: ALA, Jennifer Holm, Jennifer Ralston, Newbery

Babies Love Books!
The library has been serving children for many years, but perhaps you haven't realized that libraries are introducing the youngest of children... babies even! to books. This popular program runs about 20 minutes "officially" but the parents and small tykes are usually having such fun, that the program might run over time. From blowing bubbles to catching balloons, these little readers are having a blast at the library. Come join the fun. Schedules available at our branches or check the Events Calendar: Babies Love Books.

Hobbies at the Library
Did you know that some of the most popular programs at the library are hobby-based? If you're interested in learning something new, one of these library programs may be just the ticket. From Scrapbooking to Photography to Knitting to Writing ... the library is truly a "learning place." Check out our Events calendar for upcoming meetings. These groups are also a great place to make new friends. If you have participated in one of these groups, perhaps you could share here a little about your hobby... leave a comment!Labels: hobbies, hobby, photography, scrapbooking, writing
