Libraries in Difficult Economic Times
Here's what's interesting... with any economic downturn, public libraries become more important than ever. Here at HCPL, we have already discovered this to be true. We have seen a rise in circulation, more foot traffic in our buildings, and more online visits. We are seeing more of our traditional patrons who have faithfully used our services over the years, but we have also seen new customers who are only now discovering that we have up-to-date DVD's, music, audio books (in CD as well as MP3 formats), public computers, wifi, and of course, lots and lots of books for all ages.
The American Library Association estimates that 10% more people are visiting libraries than they did 2 years ago. They also estimate a 5% increase in library card registrations.
We are happy that we can continue to provide services to our communities and we thank you, our patrons and customers, for you ongoing support.

Barnes and Noble Day for the Library
Friday, December 5th is Barnes & Noble Day for the Library. Just print and take one of our vouchers, show it at the B&N check-out, and the library will receive up to 20% of the proceeds. Last year's partnership fundraiser was a huge success so we are hopeful that this year's event will be equally popular.
Not only will library staff be on hand to answer any libary-related questions, we will also be wrapping gifts, conducting story times, and hosting several authors who will be signing their books. Authors scheduled to appear are:
Children's Author, Bobbie Hinman 10 am - Noon
Romance novelist, Loree Lough 11 am - 1 pm
Local Chef, John Shields Noon - 2 pm
Inspirational author, Jennylynn Hart 2 pm - 4pm
