General OneFile

Gale General OneFile is a comprehensive general interest resource providing periodical and news information through an intuitive, state-of-the-art interface. Perfect for researchers at all levels, General OneFile includes more than 7,000 full-text titles; more than 3,600 journals; more than 25 years of backfile; and five newspaper indexes.

MasterFILE Premier

This multidisciplinary database provides full text for nearly 1,700 general reference publications with full text information dating as far back as 1975. Covering virtually every subject area of general interest, EBSCO’s MasterFILE Premier also contains full text for nearly 500 reference books and over 164,400 primary source documents, as well as an Image Collection of over 502,000 photos, maps & flags.

Ancestry Library Edition

(Only available from INSIDE the library) The number one source for on-line family history records and genealogy research includes census, military, church, and immigration records as well as many other genealogy research sources. The database also includes slave narratives, newspapers, directories, and tips on how to begin genealogy research. For more resources, try HeritageQuest Online.

Ancient and Medieval History Online

From Facts on File, this database covers six ancient centers of civilizations-Africa, Egypt, Greece, Rome, Mesoamerica, and Mesopotamia and time periods ranging from 3 to 5 million years ago through 1522. It includes basic information as well as biographies, timelines and maps and charts.

Auto Repair Reference Center Database

Contains complete automotive repair information supplied by Point 5 Technologies, a provider of electronic repair information for the Automotive Service and Library markets. The database contains information on most major manufacturers of domestic and imported vehicles, with repair information for many vintage makes as far back as 1954. Information includes technical service bulletins, wiring diagrams, labor time guide and estimator, automobile specifications and maintenance schedules, and much more. Available from library computers and from your home computer with a Harford County Public Library card.

Biography in Context

Provides a comprehensive reference database of biographical information on more than 180,000 people from throughout history, around the world, and across all disciplines. The Biography Resource Center combines 50 Gale biographical databases with more than 250 full-text periodicals to provide multi-source, full-text coverage. Includes searching tips, as well as a featured "person of the week" profile.

Harper’s Weekly: 1857-1912

The definitive online version of the newspaper of record for the latter part of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries provides an essential resource for students of the period, providing insight into the political, sociological, cultural, and economic issues of the day. The database includes over 75,000 illustrations, cartoons, maps and portraits.

HeritageQuest Online

In partnership with Sailor, Maryland’s Public Information Network, this genealogy site is available from ProQuest Information and Learning both inside and outside the library. The site offers 25,000 family and local histories and is specifically designed for beginning researchers in public libraries. An additional resource for genealogy help is AncestryPlus.

NEW Historical U.S. Newspapers

Historical U.S. Newspapers from Proquest is the definitive newspaper digital archive offering full-text and full-image articles for significant newspapers dating back to the 18th century. Researchers interested in history, genealogy and culture can travel digitally back through the centuries to be an eyewitness to history. Includes the Baltimore Sun and the Washington Post.

History Reference Center

History Reference Center offers full text from more than 1,620 reference books, encyclopedias and non-fiction books, cover to cover full text for more than 150 leading history periodicals, nearly 57,000 historical documents, more than 77,000 biographies of historical figures, more than 113,000 historical photos and maps, and more than 80 hours of historical video.

Kids InfoBits

Gale Kids InfoBits includes curriculum support references from Blackbirch Press, nearly 100 full-text age appropriate magazines and 2 newswires. Kids InfoBits is jam-packed with eye popping graphs, charts, maps and more than 2,500 searchable images.

Kids Search

Kids Search makes it easy for students to search by keyword or by topic to find the most useful search results. Results can be easily sorted by source type - -magazines, reference books, photos, flags, etc.

LearningExpressLibrary

An interactive test preparation site for both academic and career exams that allows patrons to take practice exams and receive on-line scoring and customized evaluations. First time users will need to register on-line. If you need assistance, please see a librarian.

Literature Resource Center by Gale

Provides biographical and bibliographical information on authors and their works. Includes literary criticism, plot summaries, and the ability to search by literary theme, literary movement and time period. The Literature Resource Center covers American, English, and world authors.

Morningstar Investment Research Center

Morningstar Investment Research Center provides access to premium information on stock and funds and includes Morningstar analysts independent opinion on 1,700 stocks, 2,200 mutual funds, and 300 exchange rated funds. The research center also offers accurate, up-to-date data on 35,000 stocks and funds, along with industry and market data. The database lets users build and test portfolio ideas online, and provides financial education through its Investing Classroom.

Points of View Reference Center

The Points of View Reference Center is an interface intended for public, academic, and high school libraries. Points of View is designed to assist researchers in understanding the full scope of controversial subjects. High school and undergraduate students can use Points of View as a guide to debate, developing arguments, writing position papers, and for development of critical thinking skills. Each Points of View Essay includes a series of questions and additional material to generate further thought. Student Research Center

EBSCO has created a search interface designed specifically for secondary school students, according to their needs and search abilities. The Student Research Center provides students in secondary schools with the most appropriate research tools for easily obtaining the information that they seek from their EBSCO databases. Through the Student Research Center, users can easily pre-determine which content sources (e.g., Magazines, Newspapers, Biographies, Country Reports, Film & Video) will be included with their search. They can also search their databases by topic heading, make use of an online dictionary and encyclopedia, explore the top searches of the day, and even limit their search according to appropriate Lexile reading levels.

World History in Context

Gale History Resource Center: World has always featured extensive coverage of the 20th century.
