Summer Reading Program

Each summer children from birth to teen register to participate in the Summer Reading Program. Harford County Public Library joins the statewide initiative, which each year provides a theme and associated activities for each jurisdiction to adapt for its respective communities.

Librarians visit schools in the spring to promote the program and encourage participation. Children and their parents are invited to visit the library, participate in wonderful programs and, of course, read!

The HCPL Foundation has raised funds to provide all children who register with a theme-based tote bag or book bag to carry their books in during the summer. Additionally, each completing reader receives an age appropriate book to keep as a reminder of the program and to encourage continued reading.

The Summer Reading Program for 2012 is themed “Dream Big - Read!”
