Summer Reading Program
Nothing drives a child's imagination quite like reading. Reading cultivates creativity and critical thinking, and is the catalyst for a lifetime of academic success. Harford County Public Library is committed to providing a Summer Reading Program that inspires a love of reading and learning in children and encourages them to read throughout the summer and all year long.
The results of recent studies show that children who participate in public library summer reading programs score higher on reading achievement tests at the beginning of the new school year, experience less summer reading loss, and begin the school year with more confidence.
In 2013 more than 16,000 children participated in Harford County Public library's Summer Reading Program and read over 98,000 books. This year's exciting science based theme, Fizz, Boom, Read! is anticipated to attract even more children to the library during the 2014 Summer Reading Program.
Our wish is to provide every child who participates in the Summer Reading Program with quality books that encourage continued learning and inspiration. Please consider making a donation to the 2013 Summer Reading Program to help us reach this goal. Who knows what discoveries will surface from the minds of children who spend the Summer immersed in Reading.
